Design Network

Welcome to the Design Network – Your resource for design support

Eight not-for-profit organisations that promote better and more sustainable places to stimulate economic growth have come together to form the Design Network. Each Network member has a proven track record of delivering successful Design Review Panels. This service ensures that planning and development proposals for building and public spaces are sustainable, cost effective, user friendly, attractive and fit for purpose.

But our work goes well beyond Design Review to include training, community engagement, economic development, design workshops, advice to local authorities, neighbourhood planning support, and promotion of the new Building for Life 12 standard.

“Local planning authorities should have local design review arrangements in place to provide assessment and support to ensure high standards of design. They should also when appropriate refer major projects for a national design review. In general early engagement on design produces the greatest benefits. In assessing applications local planning authorities should have regard to the recommendations from the design review panel”.

National Planning Policy Framework (DCLG, March 2012, pp16, para 62)

All of our members work locally, bringing UK and international expertise to local issues. Design Review through the network is of a recognised standard, respected by local authorities, valued by applicants and used in decision taking by Committees. Our advice provides clarity and consistency in the planning process, helping to reduce risk for developers and house builders and speed the planning process.
